The day we cleaned the sky – a short film by Selina Wagner

Selina Wagner’s latest short animated film is a folk tale for the future, imagining a time around 500 years from now when we can celebrate coming together and cleaning up the environment. The film was funded in 2025 by CO2RE – the Greenhouse gas removal hub and was part of a larger community project involving the public in the Stirling area.

Selina worked with school children at Dunblane Primary School to explore how they might clean the sky, encouraging a positive approach to solutions towards climate change. Selina also produced a number of development paintings for an exhibition that was displayed at the University of Bristol Botanic Gardens and then at Made in Stirling.

The animation is the final part of the project. Selina worked directly with composer, David Ford, to create a folk tale that depicts a group of children who become concerned when a flock of swifts can’t reach the sky. Working with the creatures of the forest, bog and sea, they remove the huge carbon cloud from the atmosphere, setting the birds free and restoring balance to the planet.

The film is about colloboration, problem solving and positive thinking.
